The Differences in the Use of PTFE Gasket and Rubber Gasket

II. Characteristics

PTFE gaskets have five main advantages. They resist high temperatures and corrosion. They are non-stick, self-lubricating, and anti-aging. However, they are relatively brittle and prone to cracking.

Rubber gaskets have several advantages. They are compressible, impact-resistant, and wear-resistant. They resist corrosion and seal well. But they are prone to aging, hardening, and becoming brittle. So the characteristics of the two are also different.

III. Precautions for Use

When using PTFE gaskets, avoid:

  1. Corrosion by strong acids, strong alkalis, or high-temperature media.

  2. Excessive compression.

  3. Surface scratches.

Also, ensure proper fabrication and installation per standards. This will guarantee its performance and service life.

With rubber gaskets, avoid long-term sun exposure and contact with oils, solvents, acids, and alkalis. Regularly check their condition and promptly replace any damaged parts.
